Our food needs to be free of exploitation.

But this requires us to pick apart the system and put it back together – with the rights of migrant workers at its heart.

This campaign was inspired by the documentary THE PICKERS and the people whose story it follows.

There are over two million migrant agricultural workers in Europe. They are an essential part of our food system. But this work often leads them into modern slavery: unacceptable working and living conditions, pay without a minimum wage, inadequate access to healthcare and the violation of their basic freedoms and human rights.

We want to show the film and discuss solutions with you:

We want a FAIR PICK

We’re calling for 10 essential guarantees to improve the lives of migrant workers who pick the fruit and vegetables that we enjoy each day. Find out more and sign the petition calling for a FAIR PICK here.

Picking on the System

This is not a simple problem to pick apart. We need to look at the whole system end to end: from ensuring human rights legislation is universally applied for migrant workers in Europe, to providing consumers with guarantees that their food is exploitation free – a FAIR PICK for everyone involved.

This requires robust and protected supply chain legislation, worker-driven social responsibility, questioning certification processes, and the exploration of alternative food distribution models.
